MedTech Visionaries announces Nalu Medical as 2021 Winner of the Best MedTech Company and Medical Device in the Field of Neurology
MedTech Visionaries announced the winner of their 2nd Annual MedTech Visionaries Awards, which honors organizations that apply science and technology to real-world problems to advance MedTech solutions for businesses and consumers alike. The 2021 MedTech Visionaries Awards were hosted by Light4Soul and sponsored by Boost Awards. Entries from around the world were received from innovative and creative organizations and engineers in the MedTech field. Based on the pool of entries, the MVA judges selected Nalu Medical and its Nalu micro-implantable pulse generator (mIPG) as the 2021 winner of the Best MedTech Company and Medical Device in the field of Neurology.
The Nalu mIPG, the smallest and longest-lasting neurostimulator for treating chronic pain, was favored by the judges for its clear value and clinical utility. Using advanced miniaturization technology and by eliminating the internal chemical battery, the Nalu mIPG is 27 times smaller than the largest commercially available implantable pulse generators (IPG). Its innovative design no longer requires patients receiving neurostimulation treatment to have an implanted battery and the small size translates into a less invasive procedure with the potential to reduce post-implant complications such as chronic pain at the implant site, scaring, and infections associated with larger incisions to accommodate traditional sized IPGs.
Used for spinal cord stimulation and peripheral nerve stimulation, the Nalu mIPG is uniquely powered wirelessly by an external Therapy Disk containing a battery and systems to control treatment through a smartphone-based app. Although micro-sized, the mIPG delivers stimulation outputs equal to larger IPGs but with additional capabilities around advanced waveforms, programming modes, and upgradability.
